U18 County Cup Final 09th May 2019
Stone Alleynians U18 1 - 2 Newcastle Town U17
Newcastle arrived at the home of Eccleshall as firm underdogs due to a lack of player availability, with injuries and suspension. They managed too muster 12 players although not all fully fit.
This did not show as Newcastle dominated the first half. Kas Azam dragging a shot just wide from outside the area and Elliot Darlingtons shot brilliantly saved by Stones Keeper. HT 0-0
Stone came out for the second half a little more determined and themselves forced a couple good saves from the ever dependable Troy Taylor. Newcastle were in no mood to be bullied tonight and impressive back four of Tom Beamon Jay Lovatt Ollie Cawthore and Matt Ball stood up sternly to the arial bombardment.
Newcastle did have the best chance of the second half. Logan Taylor crossed for Kas Azam whose volley was brilliantly turned over by the Stone keeper. FT 0-0
Newcastle were again on top but it was Stone who took the lead against the run of play. A long ball for once evaded the back line for a easy finish. Newcastle were not done yet and responded instantly. Ollie Putnams header handled on the line PENALTY. Matt Ball stepped up nerves of steel and smashed the ball home. 1-1.
The second half of extra time saw Newcastle take control and the winner came from possibly the best move of the match. Playing out from the back the impressive captain Adam Birchall fed Logan Taylor who turned his man and played in Oliver Putnam.
Putnam confidently rounded the keeper and slotted home 1-2.
Stone threw everything at Newcastle but the lands held firm with man if the match Ollie Cawthorne commanding the back line.
Cue the celebrations. Well done boys you did yourselves your coaches and the club proud. The county cup won at last after a five year absence.
