3G Grand Opening

Former Stoke pro Andy Wilkinson to open 3G pitch

We are delighted to announce that former Stoke City defender Andy Wilkinson will be our special guest at the opening of our new 3G pitch this Saturday.

During a prolific 15-year career with the Potters, Andy made 160 appearances having joined the club’s academy from Stone Dominoes. He made his breakthrough to the first team, in the season Stoke won promotion to the Premier League.

With his roots so firmly in local football, Andy was the perfect choice for our opening event, and we are thrilled that he will be at our Roe Lane training ground to declare the pitch open for use on Saturday morning.

Gavin Appleby, chairman of Newcastle Town Football Club, said: “Being one of the more instantly recognised names and faces in football in the local area, it made a lot of sense to get Andy along for our opening event.

“Andy has enjoyed great success in his career and is a fantastic example of what you can achieve through hard work and dedication. That’s a powerful message to everyone who we hope will get to train on the facility that he will open on Saturday. I have warned him though that there won’t be any discounts if wants to book the pitch himself!”

Andy will open the 3G pitch at 10am on Saturday with Gavin Appleby, before a full day’s worth of footballing activity gets underway.

Hitmix FM are providing the music, there’ll be a bouncy castle for some of the younger ones, while for those looking to take things a little steadier, there’ll also be a cake stall. The café will be open all day to provide further refreshments.

Plenty of players and officials will be there – including the new manager Paul Moore – and they’ll all be available to share their thoughts on the day and the impact that this historic day will have on the club.
