Despite playing for 50 minutes with 10 men Castle reached the quarter final of the Staffs Senior Challenge Cup with a 3-1 victory over Midland League leaders Sporting Khalsa.
Town were quickly out of the blocks and a fine cross from Alex Morris was headed home at the far post by Sam Wilson after just five minutes. The visitors had a goal ruled out for offside before Aaron Bott fired wide for Castle. The visitors drew level when David Meese fired home on 28 mins.
Castle were back in front when a corner from James Lee was deftly flicked home by skipper James Askey. Town extended their lead five minutes later when Aaron Bott latched on to a through ball and flicked it over the defender before smashing the ball across the keeper into the far corner.
Town were reduced to 10 men just before the break when centre forward Matt Thomas (pictured was harshly sent off for the use of an elbow with both sides surprised by the decision as it appeared the defender simply ran into him.
The visitors tried to get back into the game after the break but Castle's defence held firm whilst at the other end they looked dangerous going forward. Twice keeper Raajan Gill saved well to repel the visitors and both Sam Wilson and Will Bailey went close for Town.
Town will now face either Hednesford Town or Lichfield City in the quarter final with the game expected to take ace on Tuesday 6th February.y
