Newcastle Town won an entertaining first pre-season game winning 3-2 away to Hanley Town. Castle had to come from behind twice to take the spoils with all the goals coming in the first-half.
Hanley took the lead on 14 minutes when a good passing move saw former Castle player Neville Thompson find himself clear to slot home but Castle came back into the game with Matt Ward firing narrowly wide before Kyle Stubbs played in Serkari Ahmadi whose low cross was turned home by Dan Needham.
Hanley regained the lead again with a replica goal from Thompson but were level 4 minutes later with the goal of the game when Taylor Attrell volleyed home from 20 yards on 37 minutes. Four minutes later Castle were in front when Serkari Ahmadi’s shot came back off the keeper and Kyle Stubbs was on hand to force the ball home.
Even though there were no goals in the second half it was still entertaining with Tim Sanders and Martyn Stanyer hitting the bar and post, Rajaan Gill making a good save and a couple of chances going begging for the home side and Castle going near through Lewis Grocott, Oliver Putnam and Serkari Ahmadi.
Both sides will have been pleased with the runout and everyone saw enough to give hope for the forthcoming season and to suggest there is a lot to look forward to.
