It was just over a week ago when we held our Annual Awards night for our 1st Team squads. In a first for the club, our Women and Mens teams jointly shared the evening, celebrating their own seasons. A wonderful evening saw a packed clubhouse, four trophies presented to each section, speeches from the captains and managers, all finishing with some music and dancing late into the night. In another first the club decided to renamed two of the Mens annual trophies after former club legends and members.
First up was the Supporters Player of the Season award, which the club had decided to name after former Chairman Paul Ratcliffe. The winning recipient was Joe Slinn. The club was very grateful to Club President Barbara Ratcliffe for presenting this award on the evening and her very kind words about the clubs progress. Secondly, the Players Player award was renamed the John Walkers Players Player of the Season award, in recognition of the fantastic work John did for the club for many seasons and particularly poignant considering his recent passing. Oliver Ritchie won a very tight vote.
Gavin Appleby, Chairman said “It is important that we recognise the contribution of current and former members of the club, this is just another small way of showing our appreciation for their commitment to our community.” He added how pleased he was to see both sections together for the awards “I am delighted to get both the Women and Men’s section together for this event, it’s how it should be at a club like ours and how it will be moving forwards.”
Following the conclusion of their last league game, the Reserve team management presented their players with their end of season awards. Congratulations go to Lewis Grocott who picked up the Managers Player of the Season award, a particularly impressive achievement considering a two and a half year spell on the sides following a serious injury. Further success for Corey Mercieca who picked up the Players Player award and Callum Collis who narrowly pipped Jay Cooper to the price of top goalscorer. Well done to all three lads on their awards and successes this season.
