Castle 1-3 Marine AFC

Newcastle Town FC 1-3 Marine AFC

Saturday we began our 2021/22 campaign but it was not the start we were hoping for with us going down to a very well worked Marine side.

Marine took their chances well in the first half with goals from Neil Kengni, Alex Doyle and the impressive Owen Watkinson giving Marine a strong 3 zip lead at halftime.

Castle manager Robin van der Laan made 2 attacking changes at the break with Max Chimenes and Will Gibbons both coming on but Castle could not take their chances and it was not till the 62 nd minute when captain James Askey made it a second league opening day goal for him as he reduced the lead by 2 goals with a good goal at the back post, but Castle could not capitalise on chances despite Marine been at 10 men for the last 30 minutes after Niall Cummins was sent off for a second yellow.

Castle will dust off and take what positives we can from the game, which also had 3 debuts for Lewis Jarman, Decland Arber and Will Gibbons.
