The last time we played seven FA Cup matches in a season, we made it to the first round of the FA Cup. That was in 1996.
Tom Jones’ 5 FA Cup goals has only been bettered once – by Jordan Johnson who scored six in the 2010/11 season.
Our best FA Cup performance was a 5-0 win against Nuneaton Griff (yes, this really is the name of a football team) in 2010. Jordan Johnson got a hat-trick.
The 1996/97 season wasn’t the season where we had the most cup matches in one competition though. That came in 1999/2000 when we played ten games to reach the semi-finals of the FA Vase.
Discounting the Covid season, this season’s FA Cup run has already led to the longest gap between league games. Our last league fixture was a home game against Nantwich Town on Monday 26 August, our next league game isn’t scheduled until Saturday 28 September – with a trip to Wythenshawe.
If we’d been due to play Wythenshawe Town rather than their neighbours Wythenshawe, then we might not have played another league game until October. Yep, you’ve guessed it Wythenshawe Town play in the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup that day.
And lastly, our next game? It’s in the cup, we travel south to take on Lichfield City in the Staffordshire Senior Cup next Wednesday.
