Kidsgrove Athletic 4-0 Newcastle Town

Newcastle travelled up the A34 on Bank Holiday Monday for the local borough derby and looking to get their first points on the board of the 2021/22 season.

Castle made one change from the team that played previously with Matt Harrison dropping to the bench after a knock and Jack Fishman coming in as a replacement.

In the early exchanges both Castle and Athletic had limited chances and wasted a lot of possession of the ball and Castle, like previous games, had a number of corners in the first half but failed to take advantage of the corners. Kidsgrove were growing in the game but crosses were been dealt with by Castle and no shots to trouble Mooney in goals but it was a similar situation for Castle who had not troubled Harrison into a save.

On 36 minutes a quick throw in was taken and the Will Byers broke into the area and crossed the ball to an unmarked Kieran Brown who headed a shot towards goal but appeared to be saved by Monney only for the Linesman on the far side to award the ball as been over the line and award Kidsgrove the opening goal of the game. Then on 42 minutes a ball was played into Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi about 30 yards out and un imposed he let fly with the ball and it flew into the top corner of the net to give Athletic a second goal just before the break and a commanding lead.

The second half started the same as the first half with both sides not keeping hold of the ball and not creating chances that challenged either keeper with the final shot been way off-target or the final ball not been good enough to keep the play alive. Then on 59 minutes a cross into the Castle box was not cleared and dealt with and Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi was on hand to volley into the back of the net and put Kidsgrove 3 goals to the good. On 66 minutes Castle's afternoon got worse when they lost possession in the middle of the park and Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi raced away with Kieran Brown to his right he played him in and Brown hit a low shot across the advancing keeper into the bottom corner of the net to put Athletic 4 up and ultimately condemn Castle to their 4th defeat of the season.
