Scunthorpe – we’re ready!
With just a day to go before our players go into what for many of them will be the biggest game of their lives, we can now say we are truly ready for whatever comes our way.
Come 3pm tomorrow the talking stops, and the big test starts. We know that it will be a phenomenal challenge for our boys, but it’s also a great opportunity.
For all the talk of Scunthorpe being in supreme form – they are as their unbeaten record demonstrates – Bakes, as he has alluded to in the build up to the game, has been plotting a way through the Lincolnshire giants.
“We want to give a strong account of ourselves and I’m very confident that we will. The fitness levels are really good and we’re coming into this with a terrific mental attitude. The players will respect but will not be fazed by Scunthorpe tomorrow.
“What we have got to do is to be sound defensively but that won’t be the sole game plan. We’ve got our specific plans, which clearly I’m not going to repeat now, but my instructions to the players are clear – go out there, give it your best, enjoy yourselves and don’t leave anything out on the field. It’s the FA Cup and anything can happen!”
Vice-captain Kyle Stubbs was equally looking forward to the challenge before training last night, as he made clear when speaking to me: “The camp is really excited about the game, and we are determined to put on a show for the fans and the whole club.
“We want to test ourselves against the best sides in the competition and Scunthorpe are the very best side we could face at this stage of the cup. They’re top of their league and unbeaten but we’re going into the game full of positivity and with a strong belief that we can do something very special.”
Well said Kyle – we’re with you, my man.
Come on Castle!
