Match Preview - Vauxhall Motors FC vs Newcastle Town FC

Chance for fourth league double tomorrow

On the face of it there may not be a great deal left to play for this season with just two matches left, but you can always find something in a game.

Most importantly of course is how anything we learn tomorrow and next Saturday could impact on next season. In every game you can gain something, so we’ll continue to give it our all.

If these players want to be part of Neil Baker’s plans for 2024-25, then they have to show the hunger that he expects and demands. And if you go off last Saturday’s excellent win over a Nantwich side, which was gunning for the play-offs,then you’d say these players are definitely peckish.

But it’s the ‘c’ word that we’ve been lacking – consistency. We’ve managed three league doubles this season – a pair of 2-1 wins over Mossley, twin 1-0 victories against Nantwich, and two wins against our local rivals Kidsgrove.

Back in November we secured a slightly fortuitous 1-0 win over Vauxhall Motors, so this is a chance to complete a quadruple of doubles. Or a chance for revenge for the Motormen, depending on how you look at it..

The Motormen secured their place in our division for next season in their Northern Premier League West debut and have impressed many with their style of play. Being four points and three places below us in the league table, they’ll be eyeing up a couple of wins themselves to finish their season on a high and potentially even be thinking of finishing above us.

We need to make sure that doesn’t happen – and a draw would guarantee that it doesn’t – but more than that we’ll be wanting to put on another performance as determined as the 1-0 win over Nantwich and go one better.

Callum Holland trained last night and may feature tomorrow but otherwise we’re likely to go with an unchanged squad for the trip to Ellesmere Port.

Come on Castle!
