After the disappointment of last week’s postponement in the big game with league leaders Macclesfield Town, the boys are on the road this weekend and a long road it is too.
We make the 350-mile round trip to Workington Town and do so eager with a score to settle. When the Cumbrians came down to us on the first Saturday of December, they managed to nick a 1-0 win against the run of play, courtesy of a third minute goal from a short corner.
Despite dominating most of the rest of the game, we couldn’t find a way through, something which has been fairly symptomatic of our season. However, someone who will be hoping to change that is new signing Ant Malbon, who joins us for his second spell at the club after signing from Eccleshall.
Ant played for us originally as a teenager scoring 19 goals in 29 appearances – before securing a move to conference side Kidderminster Harriers. He then went on to become Kidsgrove’s record goal-scorer in an eight-year spell with our local rivals, but now we look forward to him lining up in the blue of ‘Castle once more.
Ant is unwell at the moment and won’t be in training just yet, which is one reason why Robin has recalled Ryan Baxter from a loan spell at Stone Old Alleynians, where he has been adding goals to his game playing one division below. Ryan goes straight into the match day squad for Saturday.
Ethan Vale misses the long trip north after picking up a knee injury in the game at Widnes, while Callum Lovatt serves the first game of a three-match suspension after being sent off in the same fixture.
But while we are a little down in numbers, we are most definitely up in spirit and determined to give a very good account of ourselves at Borough Park on Saturday, as we look to extend our three-match unbeaten run.
Come on ‘Castle!
