Men’s Reserve Team Update

Big games approach with top 8 position secured

Despite being held to a 1-1 draw at Audley on Saturday, our reserves team have already secured their place in the top eight of the Staffordshire County Senior League.

A goal from Jay Cooper after some good play down our attacking left gave our boys a 1-0 lead ten minutes into the second half but a strong physical Audley side equalised to secure a deserved draw and defy their lowly position in the league table.

The final round of initial league fixtures is this Saturday when Dave Dale’s side entertain Brereton in a game which kicks off at 3pm at Roe Lane.

Then on Monday night the reserves play in the Presidents Cup against Foley 433 in a game which is being held at Buckmaster Avenue with a 7.30pm kick off. The bar and café will be open for this one, so get yourself down to support the boys if you can.

Dave’s been strengthening the squad over the last few days with Kobi Angel and Tyler Jai Bacciochi added to the mix as the reserves move into the business end of the season.

Dave was in positive mood when I caught up with him after the draw with Audley. “We’ve achieved our objective of making the play-offs and I’m very proud of how hard the boys have worked to do that as it’s a tough league – the game at Audley showed that.

“We’re effectively playing for two promotion spaces up against the likes of Crewe and Keele and we know it will be far from easy but we’re going to give it a good go.

“The game with Brereton is a good test as they’re one point above us at the moment and then once the cup game has been played, we’re into the final seven league games, which will decide whether we can earn promotion to the Staffs Senior Premier League.

The boys have worked very hard all season and have taken great strides so if you can get down to see a game or two in the closing stages of the season it would be great to see you.”

Great stuff Dave and good luck for the coming games.
