Recruitment Update

Key players put pen to paper

With our opening pre-season game just round the corner (not that you need another reminder but just in case Port Vale come to us on Friday with a 7.30pm kick-off at Buckmaster Avenue) our gaffer Neil Baker is immersed in the process of encouraging players to sign along the dotted line for the season ahead.

And now that we’ve hit July, this means that players not under contract have become available to be registered. It’s not a straightforward process navigating all of this in tier 4 football, but with a wily old fox like Bakes at the helm, we’re in very safe hands!

That process of registering and re-registering players started in earnest this week as seven more key players committed to the club.

Joining our skipper Tommy van der Laan and goalkeeper Joe Slinn in signing for the new season is Tom Jones – who having played for us last season while on dual registration with his parent club Altrincham – now becomes our player outright.

As we saw, pretty much from the off when he came to us in January, Tom provides us with pace and skill when leading the forward line.

Similarly, Nathan Barry made a great impression when he came to us from AFC Alsager and offers a real physical presence up top.

And in the key position of centre half, we are delighted to announce that our vice-captain Kyle Stubbs has committed to us for another season. Kyle has had a lot of interest from other clubs, so it’s a real fillip for us going into the 2024-25 season to know that he sees his future with Newcastle Town.

Keeping the good news coming, the ever-popular Ollie Ritchie – voted players’ player of the year in 2023/24 – will be back for another season and he’ll be joined by two Jacks and a Jake. Van der Laan, Sherratt and Twyford join the roster for the new season.

There’ll be plenty more player news to come in the coming days and weeks, so keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels – the best place to keep up to date with the very latest.

And now that we’ve said all that, make sure you get your ticket for Friday’s game with Vale and see them all in action!
